^ that's what I'm calling it. I'll be moving with my gf later this summer and decided that I have the time and luxury to take a little while off instead of going right from old job to new job. so here's what I'm thinking of doing during my funemployment era:

1. a lot of reading

I'm planning on using my library card lots and lots this summer. I've been on a real fantasy kick lately and have been really enjoying the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb! I like Hobb's prose a lot and the classic fantasy feel that she still keeps fresh with really interesting characters and political intrigue. AND there's queerbaiting. Thank god. I'm about halfway through Royal Assassin right now and have been listening to audiobooks while I do chores or crafts.
I've also been reading a good amount of sci-fi this summer as well! Right now I'm making my way through Ninefox Gambit by Yoon-Ha Lee (I like to have both a physical book and an audio book on rotation at all times lol), which is so unlike anything else I've ever read. It's definitely taking me longer than usual to get through it since the worldbuilding and the way that the society operates are pretty complicated, but the plot is really interesting and it somehow still feels very fast paced! I've also got some Ursula LeGuin short story and essay collections on my TBR for this summer, I spent most of last summer reading her novels and had a great time.

2. crafting/cosplaying

we're going to Otakon in DC in august, so I'm going to be working on my cosplays for that! The big build I think is going to be Coustas from Witch Hat Atelier, which I'm still a little daunted by. I'm also working on updating my new Kurapika cosplay I made for Anime Boston a month or so ago. the hard stuff (garment construction, patterning, measuring etc.) was done in time, so now I'm mostly just adding fun details like beads and tassels! I do have to remake the pants and shirt that go under the costume though because I accidentally made them a little too small for AB and could NOT sit down all day for fear of ripping my pants. ah well. I've been having lots of fun doing my hand beading and embroidery while I watch TV or hang out with friends.

in non-cosplay crafts, I want to keep working on my long running quilt project. Especially when I'll be home alone so I can bring my sewing machine down to the dining room table and don't have to worry about the blanket knocking things over on my desk. It's going to be a very cute puff quilt with a pink, orange, and white color scheme. coincidentally the colors of the lesbian flag :D I'm also thinking of making a smaller quilted picnic blanket that can roll up and has straps to carry it for all my various park excursions.

I also got some great green linen from Joann before it closed (RIP Joann's), and I want to make a nice breezy pair of shorts out of it, and I still have the nice batik fabric my girlfriend got me in Hilo that I want to use to make a nice button down for my friend's wedding in july.

3. museums and outings

I've got time, I've got a charliecard, and I've got a car I can borrow! In boston, I'm going to hit up the Isabella Stewart Gardner, the MFA, the aquarium (I do go there a lot though, i love the aquarium lol), and some of the Harvard museums. I also want to spend more time outside, probably going out to visit my grandfather who lives out on the beach or my parents who live in the mountains. Outside of boston I'm going to go to the Peabody Essex for sure, and hopefully drive down to the New Bedford Whaling Museum sometime and maybe even down to the Mystic Aquarium!
